Spiritual Wellbeing

 This is a nature guide

Explain the 5 ways to being healthy in nature:

Swimming- By swimming in any type of water and Cooling off
Making shelter- To protect yourself from Poison ivy and keeping yourself safe from a cold or illness
Eating healthy- To keep your body in shape and to Keep yourself strong
Staying hydrated- If you drink water it fills your tank full and water is the best source of drink for you
Plant plants- To make more trees and plants for nature so you can live in a green healthy environment also feeding them with water

If I had a goal and turned it into a game what will it be?

-It would be to run the fastest and i would turn it into football and hopefully always be successful in football

Put a picture of your favorite outdoor place with a caption explaining why this is important to you and your Family

My family and my favorite place is Kyle park because we have midnight walks there and i have always loved the bmx track racing family there.

How I think the earth was formed

Earth formed around 4.54 billion years ago, approximately one-third the age of the universe, by accretion from the solar nebula. Volcanic out gassing probably created the primordial atmosphere and then the ocean, but the early atmosphere contained almost no oxygen.

Our new Kahui

                                     Our new Kahui

This week we moved into our amazing new classroom and our class is called Tieke and we moved in with sh, Our class is at the end closest to the auditorium and there are two other classes the class in the middle is called Riroriro and the one closest to the gym at the other end is called Mohua.

We waited in the auditorium learning the rules to the new buildings just to keep it looking good and making sure we look after the environment around it and inside it. We had a tour of the classroom straight after that my class and sh walked to our classroom and we had a tour inside it,There were alot of things going on inside of the building there were other classes in their like Japanese and so on.

We got showed all of the classrooms and what our new timetable will look like. The names of the classrooms are bird names and inside each class has a color from on the bird.

When I walked into our new buildings i saw... Some teared seating taking up quarter of the classroom and i saw amazing tv's with cool lighting around the outside. I saw a large space and really fancy fans I saw two senior classes right by our class outside there was fake grass with a hill and it looks good.

When I walked into our new building's i thought...That everything changed like a boring small classroom upgrading to a new fancy classroom i thought why couldn't they upgrade the phones as well as the class.I thought that the grass looked cool but it must hurt if you fall over on it.

When I walked into our new building's i felt...I felt that everything was gonna change because there would be more people inside of the class and lots of things would be going on.

My Favorite part of the classroom...

My favourite part of the classroom was the three tv's with the speakers i like them because they look cool and its clear and there is actually some lighting around the tv's what ever color is on the tv's the outline will have that color too.

Our Fun Wednesday

Puberty lesson

On Wednesday the 18 of September a man came to our school to talk to us about what are the changes in puberty and what happens in life...

All year 7's and 8's went to the auditorium feeling uncomfortable about this subject but the man made it feel funny because he told some jokes and i think that every single person from that room has learnt something that day..

He taught us about how to look after your body and different parts of the body. In my opinion it helped me because now i know the changes that will happen to me, for example he told us boys can: Grow Taller, Grow hairs, Have a deeper voice and much more and girls can: Grow taller, Grow wider, Grow some hairs and get larger breasts. He told us that the best people to talk to if this happens to you is your parents...

Mega air

Straight after the lesson of puberty we had to line up in classes and we were waiting to walk to mega air everyone was excited but we got told we only had an hour there...

As soon as the teachers released classes ts and sh walked to mega air first when we were walking down the driveway it smelt bad because apparently chickens get killed there but it also smells like chicken nuggets when the dead smells gone.

We were excited to bounce but first we needed to wait for the other classes to arrive... as soon as they arrived we all watched a little clip and on that clip it said the rules to mega air...

As soon as we could bounce we ran to all different types of things like dodge ball, the half pipe, the air bag and many more... I had a really good time there and hope to go there again sometime i think everyone enjoyed there time there.

Sport...Well kinda

The reason why i named this sport...well kinda is because we did -Tug of war,Ki-O-Rahi, Capture the flag and i don't know if all of them are sport...

First the people who did sport first go to mega air and the people who did mega air first [witch is us] we do sport. So we are like switching events.

First we had to get into 6 teams and we named our teams after a country we were the Aussies

The First sport we did was Capture the flag and it was intense but we managed to win by two points

Next sport was Ki-O-Rahi and we had a draw on that one it was fun

Lastly we did tug of war and we dominated that one our team won by 5 points

Points for the sports:

Capture the flag: 2-0
Ki-O-Rahi: 1-1
Tug of war: 5-0

Straight after all of that the yr 13's put up a kahoot for us to do on how we liked the sport event because they wanted to know our opinion on the idea and also because they came up and were the leaders in the sports so thank's to the yr 13's for setting the sport's up i really enjoyed it and i think everyone else did to.

Our world 2019-2040

Today in the auditorium we watched this documentary film called 2040 and Damon talked about how to make the planet a better place to live in for the future. He went around in many places asking children what they want to see in the future 2040.

What surprised me: I was surprised about how Bangladesh uses solar panels and make a grid that they share with their village and it turns out to be cheaper that way.

What worried me: I was worried about what people do to turn out successful in the future or be unsuccessful and if you have a bad impact in the environment in the past you would make it a bad and gross future.

What Excited me: I was excited to see what to do to make the world a better place and all of the steps he went through explaining helpful facts for the earth around us and to make city's more greener.

What would i like to see in 2040: I would like to see more green/nature in the city's with a machine in the water monitoring what goes in and outside of the water. To make not only land but water a better place.

What are 2 things i learned:
-If you have a healthy impact in the past you will make the future better.
-The ways of connecting energy to the world and giving the world more energy by using solar powers.

Ella West

Today an author named Ella west visited Hornby high school inside of the auditorium to tell us about her life as an author and her books that she has written.

Here are her books:

https://www.google.com/search?sa=X&rlz=1CABJUN_enNZ843&q=ella+west+books&stick=H4sIAAAAAAAAAONgFuLRT9c3NMqrMDcqtCxQQuFpSWUnW-kn5edn6yeWlmTkF1mB2MUK-Xk5lYtY-VNzchIVylOLSxTAwjtYGQGGUaNlTwAAAA&ved=2ahUKEwj-7bqun8LkAhWx4nMBHU4JB1sQzTooATAVegQIDBAC&biw=1366&bih=665&safe=active&ssui=on

This is her life facts:

Ella West was born in Invercargill. When she had read her way through the children’s library she used her older brother’s card and began on the adult section.

She intended to study science like her brothers at the University of Otago but a drama camp she went to when she was fifteen made up her mind to persuade her parents to let her study English literature instead. She completed a BA at Victoria University.

A university holiday job, reporting at the Southland Times, taught her an understanding of the craft of writing and led her to the West Coast after a stint at the Evening Post in Wellington. In Westport, the journalist married a shearer and together they went dairy farming on the banks of the Buller River. It was there, between getting the cows in for milking, teaching drama and raising two sons, she wrote her first novel, Thieves, which was shortlisted in the New Zealand Post Book Awards the following year.

Anywhere But Here and Real Life quickly followed to complete the Thieves Trilogy and her many fans are wanting a fourth book.

She and her family now live on a rural property at Janefield near Dunedin, where Ella writes full time when she isn’t chasing sheep and cattle on the farm.

Her book Night Vision won the 2015 Young Adult section of the LIANZA Awards and was the Young Adult Children’s Choice winner in the New Zealand Book Awards for Children and Young Adults.

This is what she taught us today:

She told us that her books have made a copy of 5,000 books and all of them have sold...The books go out to New Zealand and Australia but her book called Night vision nearly made it to the united states also.

Right now she earns 15,000 each book because if she was in a bigger country she would earn way more money.

She told us it takes a while to come up with a book because she puts alot of effort into her work.

Here are her writing tips / in her own words:

First or all, write because you love doing it. Don’t write to become famous or wealthy or to have lots of friends who admire you. All of that stuff may happen but don’t write because of it. Write because you enjoy telling a story.

I have heard of people writing a 100,000 word book in two weeks which instantly becomes a best seller but I have never met them. Don’t expect this to be you. Most writers feel pretty good to crack out 2000 words a day and getting a publishing contract can take a year or more and then it can be another year or even longer before it actually gets published and appears on bookshop shelves. Of course, self-publishing an ebook is a lot quicker but you have to really know what you are doing. Be careful.

Write what you want to write. Don’t write books for kids say, about World War One because they seem to be popular at the moment, or crime books because everyone else is doing it. Write what you love and the way to find that out is probably to have a look at what you read. If you love romance stories and you read a lot of romance then write a romance. Don’t worry about people judging you – they’ll do that whatever you write.

Believe in yourself. If you want to write, if you love writing then just do it. And if you can’t handle people saying you will probably fail then don’t tell them what you are doing. No one knew I was writing Thieves except my husband until I had a publishing contract. And even then very few of my friends knew. Most people I deal with every day still have no idea. And it’s okay to keep it that way. They don’t get it and that’s just fine. My mum was the best when Thieves came out: “Hi Mum, my book is getting published.” “That’s nice, where will I be able to find it.” “It will be on bookshop shelves, Mum.” “It’s a real book?” “Yes, Mum, but I’ll send you a copy, you don’t need to buy it.” She’s now one of my biggest supporters. Thanks Mum.

Whatever you do write a great book. Not just a good book, but a great book, a mind blowing, amazing, incredible book. You sell more books this way, win awards, get to do stuff. Don’t complain if your book doesn’t sell, if it doesn’t make it into awards. Just go write a better book.

Saying that, there is a lot of luck in this business. Even with winning awards, just because your book is amazing, that doesn’t mean it will win. I once had a white pony which a friend used to enter into competitions. These competitions were simply about how the pony looked. She used to either win everything on the day, or nothing. She said it was because some judges liked white ponies and some didn’t. If the judges didn’t like white ponies, then she wouldn’t win anything, however much work she had done brushing it and plaiting its tail. When luck isn’t going your way, don’t let it get you down. When it is going your way, when everyone loves white ponies, then enjoy the roller coaster ride.

My questions for Ella west:

How long do you take to make one book:
What is your most popular book:
If you could improve one book what one would you improve:
What is her favorite sport:

Night Vision

Night Vision

Viola was born with a genetic condition that makes
sunlight deadly. In the dark of night, when most
teenagers are tucked up in bed, Viola has the run of
her parents' farm and the surrounding forest. She is
used to seeing hidden things through her night-vision
goggles, but one night she sees something that could
get her into a whole lot of trouble...
Viola has always believed she would be dead before
she was twenty, but now she must decide just how far
she's willing to go to help her parents keep their beloved
farm. Is it okay to steal from a thief? What if the thief
might be a killer? And what if the killer threatens to come
 after her and her family?

A heart-thumping thriller that will leave you breathless.

Making Cookies-Technology

Wednesday-Day 1

Yesterday in Technology for Cooking, we have
been making cookies. Yesterday we started making the dough of the
cookie, we added a few ingredients to make the dough. Unfortunately,
I don't have the recipe to show you how you can make it at home so sorry.
Anyways I was paired up with Laser, we cooperated to make a successful
dough which I was happy about and so was Laser.

After everyone finished making the dough, we
were given a paper wrapper to wrap the dough in so the Cooking Teacher
can put it in the freezer overnight.

Thursday-Day 2

We did a test cookie which counts as one of the twelve
cookies, we weighed the test cookie and got 30gs, so we
placed it back to our table and started making circle
shapes with the twelve dough's we made. We then got
given a plastic foil kind paper which we used to place
the cookies on so it will be baked, once we finished with
the base we placed a foil kind paper on the metal tray
and layed the twelve dough on the tray 2 by 6.

We then set the oven to 180 degrees Fanbake and place
the cookies in the oven. I was the one doing that job,
but Laser did half of it and I took his place the rest.
I waited every 7 minutes so I could rotate them from
the bottom shelf of the oven to the top so the cookies
can bake faster. After a few tiring moments, we were
finished so we placed it on the wooden tray and let the
cookies to cool down so we can place them in our lunch box.
